About the Practice

8:30am – 6:00pm Monday – Friday.

Appointments are required for all consultations with every effort made to see those with urgent needs.

Appointments can be made in person, by telephone or online, using an iPhone or Android app. If we have your mobile number or email address on record, you may receive an SMS or email reminder about your booked appointment.

Every effort will be made to accommodate your preferred time and doctor. Should this not be possible we may offer you an appointment with another doctor within the Exeter practice.

Our staff can also assist you in making an appointment with our doctors at our Legana practice. Patient records are accessible by all our doctors at Exeter and Legana to ensure continuity of patient care.

Emergencies will always be given priority and our staff will try to contact you should there be a need to reschedule.

Longer consultation times are available. Please book a longer appointment if you have more than one concern to discuss.

Home visits may be provided in our local area to patients who are unable to attend the surgery. Whenever possible please phone to arrange home visits in advance.

Interpreter services can be booked if required, please advise the receptionist when booking the appointment.

Please make sure the receptionist knows you have arrived so that the doctor is informed that you are waiting.

It is your responsibility to phone the practice for test results. We recommend that you phone the practice for your results two days after having tests done unless a different time frame is recommended by your doctor. Urgent cases will be notified. Your doctor may recommend you make an appointment to discuss the results personally.

We operate a recall system for abnormal results, pap smears, health assessments, diabetes assessments and childhood immunisations. Please let us know if you do not wish to be sent reminders by mail or SMS message.

Phone calls are dealt with as soon as possible. The doctors will return calls at the end of their consulting session. URGENT situations are dealt with immediately, please advise reception staff if your call is urgent.

Prescriptions are only available within an appointment, unless previously organised with your doctor.

Medical certificates are a legal document. Medical certificates are only available if you are present for a consultation with one of our doctors. We cannot issue medical certificates without you consulting with the doctor and we are not permitted to issue certificates retrospectively.

Whilst every effort is made to minimise waiting times, your understanding and patience is sought on those occasions where there may be an emergency or shortage of doctors.

If you are very ill, please make it clear to our receptionists that you really feel ill and must see a doctor and they will do all they can to help you.

If you require urgent out of hours medical advice or assistance, this service can be accessed by calling (03) 6394 4247 or the free government funded GP assist service 1800 022 222.

GP assist provides quality, approved health information and advice. A registered nurse will talk to you about your symptoms. After hours they may offer you a call back from a GP who can provide advice.

Home visits can be arranged for the severely disabled and infirm patients if they are unable to attend the surgery.

We are grateful for all feedback from our patients. From time to time we invite patients to participate in confidential surveys on the service we provide.

Our practice is an accredited teaching practice for student nurses and doctors from the University of Tasmania and for interstate university student doctors on rural placements and is a supervising practice for GP registrars.
